拍品描述
Expert's note:The bowls exhibit convincing traces of age and use, including expected wear to the rims and foot rims and natural glaze pooling at the recesses. The opalescent glaze shows the depth and tonal variation characteristic of some Jun wares. Firing irregularities appear consistent with traditional kiln practice. However, in the absence of closely comparable, securely dated examples, the proposed Song-Yuan attribution must remain cautious and ultimately speculative.China, circa 960-1368 or later. The bowl with deep sides carved to resemble lotus petals, supported on a straight foot and with a scalloped upper rim. The surface covered overall in a sky-blue glaze suffused with a network of crackles and tiny bubbles, and elegantly thinning to mushroom at the mouth. The foot left unglazed revealing the buff ware, slightly burnt to orange. (2)Provenance: From a German collection, acquired around the year 2000 from a private collector. Condition: Good condition overall, with expected ancient wear and typical firing irregularities, including glaze crackling, glaze bubbles, and minor recesses. There are a few encrustations and areas of calcification, predominantly to the interior. Chips occur along the petal edges, and the rims or parts thereof may have been lightly smoothened or polished.Weight: 79 g and 80 g Dimensions: Diameter 7.4 cm and 7.3 cmThe lobed shape of this bowl, with its elegant profile, is thought to have derived from Tang silver examples. The shape can also be found in 9th-century white-glazed porcelain, such as a small cup in the Kempe Collection illustrated by B. Gyllensv?rd in Chinese Ceramics in the Carl Kempe Collection, Stockholm, 1964, p. 123, no. 380.Literature comparison:Compare a related ru-ware lotus-shaped warming bowl with a light bluish-green glaze, dated Northern Song dynasty, 16.2 cm diameter, in the National Palace Museum, Taipei, reference number 故瓷016929N000000000. Compare two Yaozhou bowls of similar shape, dated to the 11th century, 12 cm diameter, illustrated in Mary Tregear, La Céramique Song, New York, Rizzoli, 1982, p.50-51, fig. 3-4, where a crackle-glazed example is pictured on the cover.Auction result comparison:Type: RelatedAuction: Sotheby's London, 17 May 2024, lot 229Estimate: GBP 10,000 or approx. EUR 12,000 (for one) converted and adjusted for inflation at the time of writing: A rare small 'Jun' floriform bowl, Song - Ming dynastyExpert remark: Compare the similar form, color of the glaze, ware, and size (9 cm).
