拍品描述
A SLIP-INLAID BUNCHEONG WARE 'CHRYSANTHEMUM' BOWL, LATE GORYEO TO EARLY JOSEON DYNASTYKorea, 14th-15th century. Well-potted, with sloping sides gently tapering to a short, straight foot and rising to a slightly everted rim. The interior decorated with white-slip inlay and adorned to the center with chrysanthemum florets within an encircling lappet band, reserved on a rope-curtain ground, and all below a narrow band of palm leaves to the rim. The surface covered in a finely crackled, green-tinged glaze, stopping unevenly around the foot to reveal the clay-colored ceramic beneath.Provenance: From The Sam and Myrna Myers Collection, Paris, France. Acquired between circa 1965-2012.Condition: Good condition with surface wear and firing-inherent irregularities, including light pitting, small areas of glaze recess, and five spur marks on the interior of the bowl. Occasional minute chips along the edges. Weight: 467.9 gDimensions: Height 7.6 cm, Diameter 18.2 cmBuncheong was a stoneware ceramic made in Korea between 1400 and 1600. The design on this piece has been inlaid into the surface of the dish. After forming the dish from clay, the potter would have used stamps and carving tools to cut away and impress the pattern. The potter would then apply creamy colored liquid clay or slip to the dish. With the excess slip wiped away, the pattern is clearly revealed.Literature comparison:Compare a closely related Buncheong ware bowl, Korea, Joseon dynasty, first half 15th century, 19.1 cm diameter, in the Brooklyn Museum, accession number 81.207.1.
