拍品描述
China, Jingdezhen kilns, 1621-1627. The shallow, rounded sides resting on a short, slightly tapered foot with a recessed base, rising to a flaring rim. The interior painted in underglaze cobalt blue with a coastal landscape, bearing small structures set upon the water and towering mountains in the distance, all framed by a distinctive serrated border. The exterior decorated with a double-line band encircling the rim.Provenance: From The Sam and Myrna Myers Collection, Paris, France. Acquired between circa 1965-2012.Condition: Two visible chips along the rim, repaired with metal appliqués. Otherwise, very good condition with minor wear and firing-inherent irregularities, including light pitting, scattered dark spots, small burst bubbles, and fine craquelure, mostly on the exterior. Kosometsuke, literally 'old blue and white', refers to porcelains made specifically to cater to the Japanese taste. With the growing demand for wares for tea drinking and kaiseki meals during the tea ceremony in Japan, Chinese kilns developed new, irregular shapes and decorations. Kosometsuke porcelain was intentionally manufactured using poorly levigated clay and roughly potted with inconsistencies or imperfections that appealed to the Japanese. Typical Kosometsuke wares are often slightly warped in shape and bear rim 'frits' from manufacture which were intentionally made and often perceived as damage or a mistake during firing. Often the glaze would flake off the body of the piece and the edges, known as 'mushikui', or 'earth worm nibbles', were particularly prized.Weight: 560.2 gDimensions: Height 3.3 cm, Diameter 20.6 cmAuction result comparison:Type: Related Auction: Sotheby's Paris, 16 June 2022, lot 188Price: EUR 11,970 or approx.
