拍品描述
China, 581-906. Each boldly cast, two of them raised upon a four-legged support and their heads distinctively nimbated with a leaf-shaped mandorla. The larger figure depicting Buddha Maitreya, seated frontally with hands resting on his thighs, holding a large lotus stem with his left hand, positioned beside his shoulder. The smaller figure presents Avalokiteshvara, seated in lalitasana and clad in flowing robes, with the left hand resting on his leg and his right hand raised, holding one of his attributes. The smallest of the figures, seated rigidly upon an associated wood stand with hands on the thighs, depicts the Buddha, dressed in loose-fitting robes with distinctive pleats cascading over his chest. His worn facial features are surmounted by the characteristic domed ushnisha.Provenance: From The Sam and Myrna Myers Collection, Paris, France. Acquired between circa 1965-2012.Condition: The smallest of the three figures has a fracture to the mandorla, subsequently repaired. Otherwise, all three figures are in good condition, with surface wear and casting irregularities, light warping, minor nicks and dents, small losses, and shallow surface scratches. Expected rubbing to the gilding. The surfaces of all three bronzes display rich, naturally grown patinas, with small areas of vivid malachite encrustations and an overall unctuous surface quality resulting from centuries of handling.Weight: 155.7 g (excl. stand)Dimensions: Height 5.1 to 9.2 cm (excl. stand)The smallest of the figures with an associated wood stand.
