Description

A GROUP OF SIX ‘IMMORTAL’ PAINTINGS, HANABUSA ITCHO (1652-1724)
This lot is from a single owner collection and is therefore offered without reserve

Japan, 17th-18th century. Ink and watercolors on paper. Set inside a frame, behind glass. Each variously painted with characters and public entertainers, including a shishimai dancer and attendant, a man pushing a barrel, a sarumawashi (monkey trainer) with his monkey, musicians, and dancers.

Inscriptions: Each signed ‘Hanabusa Itcho ga’ with seal ‘Shunzai san'unsenseki kan’.

Provenance: The Collection of Sam and Myrna Myers, Paris, France. Acquired between circa 1965-2012.
Condition: Good condition with extensive wear, soiling, and browning of paper. Tears, small losses, and a few wormholes.
