Japan. Of compressed globular form, the rounded sides rising from a gently concave foot and tapering to a tall cylindrical neck, applied to the shoulders with loop-cord attachments suspending loose rings, the body decorated with foliate sprigs above a raised bowstring, the neck further incised with four geometric bands. With a fitted bronze lid surmounted by a pierced finial cast as a brocade ball set on a flat plate in the shape of a floret.

Provenance: Ex-collection Yoichiro Ogawa (1939-2002). The Collection of Sam and Myrna Myers, Paris, France. Acquired between circa 1965-2012. Yoichiro Ogawa, also known by his art name Dō-Ki—meaning “between the spirits and men”—was a Japanese painter born in Fukuoka. The heir to a distinguished family of antique dealers, Ogawa was not only an accomplished artist but also a renowned expert in Asian antiques, widely respected as a leading connoisseur in the field.
Condition: Very good condition with wear and manufacturing irregularities. Small dings, surface wear, some corrosion, nicks and scratches, and signs of wear and use.
