A LARGE BLUE AND WHITE ‘SCHOLAR’ DISH, WANLI PERIOD
This lot is from a single owner collection and is therefore offered without reserve

China, 1573-1619. Well potted with rounded sides supported on a tapered foot and rising to a broad everted rim, finely painted in inky shades of cobalt blue with a central roundel enclosing a scholar accompanied by his attendant walking in a river landscape. The cavetto with a decorative floral scroll and a band of ruyi below the rim. The exterior similarly decorated with three fruiting branches framed by lined borders.

Provenance: The Collection of Sam and Myrna Myers, Paris, France. Acquired between circa 1965-2012.
Condition: Good condition with minor wear and firing irregularities including kiln grit and small glaze recesses revealing the ware burnt to orange, expected fritting, light surface scratches, few minuscule chips to the rim, one with an associated crack extending to the cavetto, the rim and sides with minor hairlines.
