A PERSIAN BRONZE ‘RAM’ PLAQUE, CIRCA 1ST MILLENNIUM BC

Cast as a ram standing in a dynamic pose with one front hoof raised and the tail flicked to one side, well detailed with shaggy fur and rough curved horns, the head further with large almond-shaped eyes.

Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
Condition: Good condition, commensurate with age, with expected wear, signs of weathering and erosion, few minor losses, and minuscule nicks. The bronze with a rich, naturally grown patina with malachite and cuprite encrustations.
