The iconography of Shiva, Parvati, Ganesha, and Kartikeya with their vahanas represents the balance of cosmic forces and the harmony of family, duty, and spiritual growth. Shiva, the ascetic god of destruction and transformation, rides Nandi the bull, symbolizing strength and dharma. Parvati, goddess of love and devotion, is often shown with a lion, representing power and fierce protection. Their son Ganesha, remover of obstacles, rides a mouse, signifying humility and the ability to control even the smallest desires. Kartikeya, the warrior god, rides a peacock, symbolizing victory over ego and beauty with discipline. Together, they embody the unity of opposing forces – strength and tenderness, destruction and creation, wisdom and action.

Literature comparison:
Compare a related earlier Gupta terracotta panel of a hunter dated to the 5th century, in the British Museum, registration number 1976,0205.1.
