拍品描述
Expert's note: This fluted vase with its nine facets attests to a cycle of artistic exchange across media, regions, and time periods. Realized through the use of modern European glass technology, the design was inspired by ninth-century Yue celadon ware. Interestingly, these early Chinese celadon vessels are themselves believed to have been inspired by imported glass vessels from Central and West Asia.China, Beijing, possibly Imperial glass workshops. The squat-shouldered body surmounted by a long cylindrical neck finished with nine facets, the glass of a bright opaque turquoise blue color, the broad circular foot enclosing an incised four-character mark Qianlong nianzhi. Provenance: Property from the Ina and Sandford Gadient Collection. Bonhams, San Francisco, 10 December 2012, lot 5184, sold for USD 3,750 or approx. EUR 5,000 (converted and adjusted for inflation at the time of writing). A Belgian connoisseur and collector of Chinese porcelain and works of art, acquired from the above. Sandford 'Sandy' Gadient, a successful businessman, traveled extensively in Asia during the 1970s and 1980s. He and his wife developed a passion for Chinese glass after encountering it at Charlotte Horstmann's antique gallery in Hong Kong in the early 1970s. Their collection became a significant and well-regarded assemblage and many of their pieces have been exhibited in museums including the Norton Museum of Art, the Lowe Art Museum, and the New Orleans Museum of Art, with some becoming part of the museum's permanent collections. In 1999, the Lowe Art Museum hosted an exhibition of over 120 pieces from the Gadient collection including titled ''Treasures of Chinese Glass Workshops''. The collection has also been exhibited at several other museums across the United States.Condition: Very good condition with minor wear, manufacturing irregularities including pitting, few tiny nicks, and few minuscule chips to the rims which have smoothened over time.Weight: 538 g Dimensions: Height 19.2 cm Literature comparison: Compare a closely related turquoise blue octagonal-fluted glass vase, with a Qianlong mark and of the period, dated mid-18th century, 14.6 cm high, in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, object number 91.1.1169.Auction result comparison: Type: Related Auction: Christie's Hong Kong, 28 May 2014, lot 3493 Price: HKD 375,000 or approx.
