拍品描述
China, 16th century. Supported on a foot with a recessed base, rising to rounded shoulders, and surmounted by a short flaring neck. The body is made of gilt bronze with vitreous enamels and decorated with red, white, blue, and yellow lotus blossoms with scrolling vines on a 'Jingtai' blue ground. The vase also shows ornamental bands above the foot rim and around the neck, as well as further lotus scroll to its base, which is quite rare to find.Provenance: A private collector in Zagreb, Croatia. Condition: Good condition, commensurate with age, with old wear and the usual manufacturing irregularities, notches and nicks to enamels, as well as some losses, and expected old fills. Weight: 2,125 g Dimensions: Height 30.1 cmThe term 'Jingtai' blue generally refers to the renowned cloisonne enamelware that flourished during the Ming dynasty (1368-1644), particularly under the Jingtai Emperor (r. 1450-1457) and thereafter. The cloisonne technique involves affixing fine copper wires onto a metal surface to form intricate patterns, which are then filled with enamel and fired for a lustrous finish. The term 'Jingtai' blue originates from the deep cobalt blue enamel widely used during this period, a color that later became synonymous with the era's cloisonne artistry in general.Literature comparison: Compare a closely related cloisonne Meiping Pierre Uldry Collection, included in the exhibition Chinesisches Cloisonne.
