The apex of craftsmanship is embodied in the Dilwara temples, five temples constructed between the 11th and 16th centuries, famous for their masterful, intricate carvings of white marble, on Mount Abu itself. The lustrously polished cream-white stone is known as Makrana marble after the town in Rajasthan where it was mined.
