拍品描述
China, 12th-13th century. Each delicately potted with the sides flaring widely to the rim notched as six petals encircling the central floral roundel, one bowl with ribs of slip to the interior. The interior and exterior of each bowl are covered with a glaze of aqua color. (2)Provenance: Collection of Solomon and Hannah Shahmoon, New Rochelle, New York, and thence by descent. Two old collector's numbers '1037' and '936' to the base. Solomon E. Shahmoon (1893-1987) emigrated to Shanghai from Baghdad in 1911 and became a renowned property developer and financier during the peak of the early 20th century building boom and the city's development as the major commercial center in Asia. His success was capped in 1927 by the construction of the eight-story Shahmoon Building dominating the Bund and sited above their Art Deco masterpiece, The Capitol Theater. In 1928 Mr. Shahmoon made Paris his residence, visiting Shanghai periodically to invest in property. In 1938 he re-visited Baghdad where he met and married Hannah, and the couple settled in Paris where their first daughter was born. The Shahmoons collected art, objects, carpets, and furniture, and at the end of 1939, left Paris ahead of the Nazis for New York, where they settled permanently, first in Manhattan and then in New Rochelle. Much of their collection from both Shanghai and Paris was eventually reunited with them in New Rochelle, where they raised their four daughters in their large, Spanish-style stucco home.Condition: Overall very good condition with expected minor wear and manufacturing irregularities, some craquelure and minor glaze lines, light surface scratches, few fine hairlines, minor fritting and small shallow chips to the rims.Weight: 152 g and 172 g Dimensions: 14.5 cm and 15.1 cmThe use of raised slip lines to articulate the form, a technique seen on other ceramics and lacquer wares, demonstrates the close affinity between the various media during this period, and it is believed that this six--lobed dish form was derived from silver prototypes.Literature comparison: A closely related six--lobed qingbai porcelain shallow bowl incised with floral and linear comb patterns and of comparable shape and size, is in the collection of the Palace Museum, Beijing, see Li, Huibing (ed.), Liang Song Ci Qi, vol. II. Gugong bowuyuan cang wenwu zhenpin quaji, Shangwu yinshuguan, Hong Kong, no. 160, p. 176. Compare a closely related foliate bowl with stylized peony spray, 15.7 cm diameter, dated to the Northern Song dynasty, 12th century, in the Art Institute of Chicago, reference number 1964.848. Compare a closely related Qingbai bowl, 16.2 cm diameter, dated to the Southern Song dynasty, 12th-13th century, in the La Salle University Art Museum, Philadelphia, accession number 11-O-353.Auction result comparison: Type: Closely related Auction: Christie's New York, 23 September 2022, lot 946 Price: USD 45,360 or approx.
