拍品描述
China, 18th-19th century. Superbly potted and boldly painted in green, red, yellow, and aubergine enamels as well cobalt blue and iron-red to the exterior with two four-clawed dragons writhing amongst flame scrolls in pursuit of flaming pearls, their mouths open to reveal their sharp fangs, and the body covered with green scales.Provenance: British trade, acquired in the French art market several years ago. Condition: Very good condition with minor wear and little pitting.Weight: 1.6 kg Dimensions: Height 25.4 cmExpert's note: Despite the quality of the ware, the skilled potting, and the neat paintwork, this piece was clearly made after the Kangxi prototype shown in the auction comparison. The dragons on the present lot, while just slightly stiffer, retain all their detail and fierce spirit. The ware itself is less refined than the Kangxi example, with sturdier potting due to the smaller size, distinct pottery lines, and a few more firing flaws. Still, a fine piece overall, likely dating to around 1800, give or take.Auction result comparison:Type: Closely relatedAuction: Sotheby's London, 07 November 2018, lot 11.Price: GBP 47,500 or approx. EUR 78,500 converted and adjusted for inflation at the time of writing: A doucai dragon meiping, Qing dynasty, Kangxi periodExpert remark: Compare the closely related form, ware, and doucai decoration. Note the significantly larger size (34 cm) and the fact that this piece served as the prototype for the present lot, which was made later, likely around 1800.
