China. In form of a recumbent quail, painted in rich polychrome enamels in shades of green, yellow, aubergine, and black to decorate the bird's colorful wings and plumage, the plumage in relief. The interior covered in a rich turquoise glaze.Provenance: The Property of the late Baron John Mauger Langin, thence by descent. The boxes and one cover inscribed in black lacquer with inventory numbers. Formerly a barrister, John Langin (born 1934) later followed his passion of collecting antiques and became a dealer, trading on Portobello Market and running a shop in Putney for 45 years, before settling in the charming Oxfordshire village of Piddington where he established and ran R. A. Barnes Antiques. His specialist knowledge included antique Wedgwood, Chinese and European porcelain, and metalware, while his personal collection featured many fine pieces including jasperware, fine porcelains, and decorative arts.
