A BRONZE HEAD OF BUDDHA, LAOS, 16TH-17TH CENTURY

Finely cast, the serene face with heavy-lidded eyes, long sinuously arched brows, an aquiline nose, and full lips forming a calm smile, all detailed with neatly incised, elegantly curved lines, flanked by long pendulous earlobes. The hair arranged in tight snail-shell curls over the high ushnisha and flame.

Provenance: From a private estate in southern Germany. The back with an old inventory label inscribed ‘E116’.
Condition: Good condition with wear and casting irregularities, small nicks, light scratches, obvious losses, remnants of gilt. The bronze with a smooth, naturally grown, dark patina. Remnants of gilt.
