During the Edo period in Japan, fortune tellers, known as ‘uranai-shi’, played an important role in everyday life, offering guidance on personal and societal matters. They practiced various forms of divination, including astrology, palmistry, and face reading. Fortune tellers were often consulted for advice on critical life decisions, such as marriage, business ventures, and health, as well as for determining auspicious dates for important events. Their services were seen as essential for navigating the uncertainties of life, and their influence permeated all levels of society. Despite some skepticism from intellectuals of the time, fortune telling remained a respected and popular practice during the Edo period.

The Hamano School is a prestigious Japanese sword-making tradition founded by Hamano Masayoshi in the 18th century. Known for its intricate and refined metalwork, the school specialized in crafting high-quality and detailed decorative elements. The Hamano style is renowned for its elegance and the intricate use of soft metals, blending art with the functional craft of swordsmanship.
