The migakiji (polished ground) shibuichi kozuka worked in gold, silver, and shakudo takazogan, depicting a playful scene of two puppies wrestling, while another cub is pulling a rope with an awabi shell. Signed TAMAGAWA YOSHINAGA to the reverse.

Condition: Very good condition with minor surface wear and slight tarnishing.
Provenance: From an Australian private collection of sword fittings, collected over centuries with a discerning eye for quality and comprising mostly exceptionally fine kozuka from the noted Hamano and Goto schools.

Tamagawa Yoshinaga (active c. late 18th century) is listed in the Haynes Index of Japanese Sword Fittings and Associated Artists on p. 2307 (H 11915.0). He lived and worked in Mito, in Hitachi Province and in Edo. He was the son of Tamagawa Tsugutoshi (H 10764) and the student of Yatabe Michitoshi (H 05072). He was a retainer of the Tokugawa Daimyo of Mito and Edo Bakufu.
