Polychrome cloisonné on a copper body, partly gilt China, 18th / 19th century Depicted is the mystical creature Qilin on four sturdy legs with gilt hooves and raised head Almost graphic, turquoise colored scales The face is decorated with brown squares on a blue background Slighly open mouth with gilt teeth Mane, whiskers, beard, eye brows, horns and tail are gilded Dimensions, each: 20 x 31 cm Good condition Comparable Cloisonné Qilin figures are found in the Qing collection of the Palace Museum Beijing, illustrated in Metal-bodied Enamel Ware, The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum, Hong Kong 2002, p. 168, no. 160, as well as in the exhibition Five Colors: Chinese Cloisonné Vessels on Loan from the Mandel Family Collection, Trammell and Margaret Crow Collection of Asian Art, Dallas 2010.
