Dim:43,5 x 28,5 x 6,5 cm

Provenance: The collection of Baron and Baroness Julien van Caloen de Basseghem, Belgium.

"Chorographia Sacra Brabantiae," also known as "Heilige chorografie van Brabant," is a prominent work by the canon Antonius Sanderus, published between 1659 and 1663. This historical-geographical work provides an in-depth description of the Duchy of Brabant (Philippum IV Branbantiae Ducem), with a significant focus on its religious presence. Originally a staple in every abbey or castle library, the book is now especially renowned for its detailed bird's-eye view illustrations.

This edition is topographically valuable due to changes in several plates. The book includes a portrait of Sanderus, a dedication folio with an engraved portrait of Marie-Elisabeth, and 63 plates.

The plates primarily feature folding double-page engravings of various religious sites, such as abbeys, monasteries, convents, and Marian devotional places. Key locations depicted include Affligem, Brussels, Antwerp, Mechelen, Louvain, Averbode, Grimbergen, Tongelo, and Villers. The book is printed in red and black in two columns, and it features numerous vignettes.

"Chorographia Sacra Brabantiae" remains an invaluable resource for understanding the historical and religious landscape of Brabant, celebrated for its artistic and topographical precision.
