拍品描述
A SILVER-INLAID BRONZE FIGURE OF AMOGHASIDDHI, TIBET, 13TH-14TH CENTURY

Finely cast seated in dhyanasana atop a double lotus base with beaded upper rim, his right hand raised in abhaya mudra and the left lowered in dhyana mudra above his lap. He is wearing a diaphanous dhoti with neatly incised and beaded hems as well as billowing scarves, and is richly adorned with elaborate jewelry with foliate elements richly inlaid with silver.

His sensitively modeled face with a serene expression marked by sinuously lidded silver-inlaid eyes, elegantly arched brows centered by a square urna, and full lips forming a benevolent smile. The hair is piled up into a high chignon topped by a jewel behind the five-leaf tiara.

Provenance: From the private collection of Dr. Ernst Senner, acquired between 1950 and 1987, and thence by descent. The baseplate inscribed with an old inventory number, ‘BT106’.
Condition: Good condition with wear and casting irregularities. Small losses, minor dents and dings, few nicks and scratches, and little warping. Remnants of pigment. The base possibly resealed.

Weight: 592.7 g
Dimensions: Height 21.5 cm

Amoghasiddhi is one of the five Transcendent Buddhas who preside over the heavens of the cardinal directions, his realm being to the north. He is identifiable by his hand gesture, the abhaya mudra, symbolizing fearlessness. He represents the wisdom of all-accomplishing action and is associated with the accomplishment of enlightened activities. His direction is the north, and he is associated with the element of air or wind. He also transforms the poison of envy into the wisdom of accomplishment.

Literature comparison:
Compare a closely related figure of Buddha Ratnasambhava, 16.5 cm high, dated to the 13th century, in the Rubin Museum of Art, accession number C2010.19.
