PROPERTY FROM THE ALAN AND SIMONE HARTMAN COLLECTION TANTō (DAGGERS) AND ONE WAKIZASHI (SHORT SWORD) IN MOUNTS Muromachi (1333-1573), Momoyama (1573-1615), or Edo (1615-1868) period, 16th/17th and 19th century Comprising a blade of hirazukuri, iori-mune configuration with a slight sakizori curvature forged in itame hada and with hako tempered edge based in nioi ending in a komaru bōshi, the tang slightly suriage with one hole, katte sagari file marks, and signed Sagami no kami Fujiwara Ujifusa, 12 1/2in (31.7cm) long, with a one-piece silver-foil habaki, the 19th-century koshira-e with a black-lacquer saya decorated with minogame (bushy-tailed tortoises) on rocks in gold and black takamaki-e, the iron kojiri, kurikata, and kozuka-guchi decorated with minogame in iron and gilt or shakudō and gold, the iron kozuka decorated with a spider and dragonfly in silver, the tsuka fitted with iron fuchigashira chiseled with scholars in a cave by a waterfall, inscribed Shōzui, and shakudō and gilt menuki formed as Niō guardians, the iron mokkō tsuba chiseled and inlaid with gold with flowering vines; a blade of ken configuration forged in itame hada and with a suguha and gunome tempered edge, the ubu tang with one hole sujikai file marks and illegibly inscribed [][]Daijō Fuji Iemasa and with a kaō and an additional inscription, 10 3/8in (26.4cm) long, with a one-piece silver-foil habaki, the 19th-century koshira-e with a black-lacquer saya decorated with stylized phoenixes, paulownia, and clouds in gold hiramaki-e and kinpun, the silvered fittings with an ishime finish, the silver kozuka (dagger handle) engraved with monkeys with a branch of peaches, inscribed Yoshioka Inabanosuke, the tsuka wrapped in black thread over same and fitted with shakudō and gilt menuki formed as dharma wheels, with a silver tantō tsuba; and a blade of honzukuri, iori-mune, chū-gissaki configuration with toriizori curvature forged in ko-itame hada with a gunome tempered edge, the ubu tang with one hole and kiri file marks, 15 3/8in (39cm) long, the brown-lacquer saya decorated with swirling clouds in gold, silver, and red hiramaki-e, the shibuichi fittings chiseled and inlaid with gold with plovers in flight over waves, the kozuka and kōgai signed Masatoshi, the fuchi signed Masatsugu, the tsuka wrapped in black thread over same and fitted with copper menuki highlighted with gold and shakudō formed as a South Sea Islander and a branch of coral, the rectangular mokkō shibuichi tsuba decorated with waves, the dots of foam inlaid in gold (3).
