Agate. China, Qing Dynasty 19th cent.
Particularly fine and well-crafted work! Little round bottle with defined shoulders. The eagle on the pine is a blessing for strength and long life. Very beautiful mineral color with milky beige tone in strong contrast to the black brown. One side is fully dominated by the one of the eagles, emphasized in light relief, their feathers beveled in careful intricate detail. On the other side, the bird of prey is smaller and more depiction of the pine is demonstrated. Green arched lid and small spoon of ivory.

Smoky quartz. China, Qing Dynasty, 19th cent.
Oblong small bottle in beautiful smoky, dark, transparent tone. The strong imagery is carved in a whitish border area of the mineral, making it particularly effective. The depiction presents a resting wise man under a pine with his arm propped on a container. The Tang poet Li Taibo is possibly portrayed here on his migration in exile. Next to him is a wine vessel. On the back is another pine while the leafless branches might be plum and bamboo is recognizable on a small side a€“ meant here are the "Three Friends in Winter". Extremely fitting is the half-round light green lid with spoon of bone.
