A GRAY POTTERY FIGURE OF A WILD BOAR, HAN DYNASTY

China, 206 BC-220 AD. Heavily potted and covered with a multi-hued slip, the boar molded in two sections with the lute line visible across the back and underside. The figure standing on solid legs with its head lowered and detailed with an upturned snout and incised eyes, the body carved with a striated mane and a tail trailing down its back.

Provenance: Dutch trade.
Condition: Good condition, commensurate with age. Extensive wear, signs of weathering and erosion, minor losses, repairs, encrustations, firing cracks, all as expected from ancient Han dynasty excavations.
