Jade. China, late Neolithic period, Qijia culture, c.2200-1900 BC A bi in a totally different color in comparison to Nos. 112 and 113, a white jade, however showing varied animate pattern due to other mineral content. The translucence is captivating because the disc appears to radiate, becoming like a kind of sun disc. The light darker inclusions are grey-brown, in backlight however honey-gold and also transparent. The scattering of the small particles is greatly animated, a branched vein is also given. Both sides of the bi are smooth, the conical inner drilling is very precisely worked. Also from him, is the following information about comparative examples from publicized excavations or offered from specialist literature: Although these discs are generally attributed to a long period of time ranging from the late Neolithic period to the Bronze Age, and up to the Zhou dynasty, archaeological investigations in north-west China conducted in the last fifteen years or so allow us to place these items in a more exact cultural context and attribute them to the Qijia late Neolithic culture. Jades displaying the same variety in colour, shape and technique of workmanship have been brought to light from a number of Qijia culture sites, such as Huangniangniangtai in Wuwei, Gansu Province.
