拍品描述
Bronze and gold. China, presumably Western Han Dynasty (206 BC to turn of the eras) A very rare example of an over 2000 year-old, once lavish vessel with a dragonhead on a very tall neck and golden inlaid ornament, pressed round body on diagonal flared foot. Around the center is a raised band, two more at the beginning of the neck as well as in the lower mid neck. The inlaid ornament begins on the lower band and reaches to over the top band. The motifs are typical for the archaic period and are composed of - as far as recognizable - hooks, spirals, C-forms and could poss. have been related to the dragon or taotie (or both). This is difficult to exactly determine due to the strong development of age patina. The top section of the neck (applied starting with the cuff) is curved, the spout with slightly upright lip is on the highest point of the arch. The exceptional, expressively designed three-dimensional dragonhead is directed downwards, mouth open with tongue sticking out, the horns are forked. The vessel shows strong grey-green patina formation with incrustation and corrosion, although areas in between are remarkably well-preserved. 金加銀造長領龍頭罐。中國,約西漢代。 高43厘米。 法國傳教士 évariste Regis Huc舊藏。 HEIGHT 43 CM From the collection of a French aristocratic family, going back to évariste Regis Huc (1813 – 1860), one of the most famous explorers of Asia and missionary of the mid-19th cent., see No. 1.
