The so-called ‘Index Book’ contains many personal references to Andy Warhol and his world-famous ‘Factory’

The ‘Index Book’ was published in 1967 and contains interviews with Warhol about music and the rock band Velvet Underground, who appeared repeatedly in his films, as well as some photographs, depicting the artist, his works and the Factory. The book contains numerous folding objects from cardboard and paper: a pop-up figure of a castle, a red accordion, an airplane, a ‘Chelsea Girls’ paper wheel, a dodecahedron with a rubber band, a fictitious record with Lou Reed on the cover, a nose in rainbow colors, a pop-up Hunts Tomato Paste can, a tear-off sheet ‘FOR A BIG SURPRISE !!!’, and a balloon.

Condition:
The book is in a complete and good condition according to age, showing soft handling creases. The paper is slightly discolored. All folding objects are present and in good condition, except for the balloon that sticks between two sides. The book measures 28 x 21.5 cm.

Andy Warhol (1928-1987)
Andy Warhol, founder and leading figure of the American Pop art, was born in 1928 as a son of a Russian family in Pittsburgh. He began his artistic career by creating advertising graphics. In 1956, he presented his first graphic works at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In the early 1960s, Warhol began experimenting with different techniques and started focusing on typical American objects of the consumer society, as for example Campbell’s soup cans or Coca Cola bottles. In 1962, Warhol started with his series of portraits of famous stars, such as Marilyn Monroe or Elvis Presley, who were then at the height of their career. His well-known studio ‘The Factory’ was a meeting point for internationally successful artists, actors and musicians. As early as the 1970s, galleries started exhibiting Warhol’s work, which is now part of some of the most famous collections, including the Modern Museum of Art in New York, the Tate Modern in London and the Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris.
