Provenance: an English private collection.
Fang Zhaoling (1914-2006) studied under Zhang Daqian and Zhao Shao'ang whose influence is in evidence in this piece. She studied at St. Anne's College, Oxford between 1956 and 1958 and this work would have been painted shortly after her arrival. An exhibition of her work Fang Zhaoling: A Centenary Exhibition: 1914-2006 was held at the Ashmolean Museum in 2015.
