Estimate by Auctionata Expert: 8,000 Euro

The work was created after a painting by Miró, which had originally been made in 1949 (cf. Dupin 725). A typical surrealist composition of the Spanish, it shows a dreamlike scene in an indefinite space. On the blurred background in earthy and greenish tones, Miró has depicted playful lines, which connect the schematic symbols displayed by him in bold colors. The blue dog is the center of this floating composition of faces and characters, in which the famous Miró star is not missing. The combination of painterly areas and drawn lines, as well as of muted and bright colors, creates an exciting contrast in the image.

Condition:
The aquatint in colors is in a good condition. The sheet is toned, light-stained and slightly rippled. Occasionally barely visible stains and handling creases can be seen, the latter particularly at the upper right corner. The sheet is mounted to a mat with 3 photo corners. The plate dimensions measure 61 x 47.6 cm, the sheet dimensions are 83 x 62.2 cm. The framed dimensions are 91 x 77 cm.

Joan Miró (1893-1983)
Miró was born in Barcelona where he grew up and started his artistic studies. He went to the academy La Llotja against his parents’ will who had wanted him to work in a more traditional way. He later studied at the Escola d’Art from Francesc Galí and got to know the Fauves and the cubists. In 1920 he moved to Paris where he lived amongst the most creative artists of his time. He got to know Arp, Magritte, Brancusi and Giacometti and exhibited together with Dalí, Tanguy, Meret Oppenheim und Max Ernst in several exhibitions about Dadaism and Surrealism. Miró moved to Mallorca in 1956 where he focused first on sculptures and later on ceramics.
