A PAIR OF CORAL-GROUND 'CHANGCHUN TONGQING' BOWLS AND A PAIR OF FAMILLE VERTE 'QILIN' BOWLS
Guangxu and Kangxi marks, Late Qing to Republic Comprising: a pair of changchun tongqing-style bowls with four roundels enclosing a dragon and phoenix against a coral-red ground incorporating butterflies and flower heads, the bases with four character Guangxu marks; and a pair of deep sided bowls, each decorated with quatrefoil panels enclosing a qilin, against a ground of leafy foliage, the base with a Kangxi six-character mark, wood stands. The largest 17.7cm (7in) diam. (8).

The design on the dragon and phoenix bowls follows the design of the famous 'Wedding Set' of porcelains commissioned for the marriage of the Tongzhi Emperor in 1872. A bowl from this service in the Palace Museum, Beijing is illustrated Zhang Han, 'Xiqing jixiang: Wanqing Tongzhi dahun ciqi pashu (Auspicious: Late Qing Dynasty Tongzhi wedding porcelain), Forbidden City, vol. 12, 2020, p. 104. The present pair bear the Guangxu mark from the succeeding dynasty but may date as late as the Republican era.
