Chinese 19th century porcelain phoenix vase lamp. The antique porcelain vase is most likely from the 19th or early 20th century with hand painted decoration depicting several Fenghuang birds or Chinese phoenix birds in flight amongst iron red peony blossoms. The Fenghuang are mythological birds of East Asia that reign over all other birds. An iron red flame decoration encircles the neck. Elaborate bulbous, baluster-shaped vase rests atop a classical openwork Chinese wooden stand and is mounted with a domed pierced wooden cap which supports the lamp fixture. Vase was modified to be used as lamp most likely in the early 20th century and has old hardware. It is topped with white jade carved finial that has free-moving circular discs carved with Chinese symbols. In excellent condition. Measures 28 inches high x 10 inches wide.
