German 19th century oil on canvas painting. Mythical painting depicts pans or satyrs chasing nude nymphs in a dreamy woodland landscape under an ominous blazing red sky. The alluring fantastical scene captures a terrified nymph, her flaming red hair a hand-reach away from a satyr in pursuit. The classically inspired theme painting, purchased in Prague, Czechoslovakia in the 1970's, was originally from Germany. Illegibly signed lower right. Scattered inpainting with old strip line and waxed canvas. Painting measures 31.8 x 55 inches. Original frame measures 41.5 inches high x 64.5 inches wide. Signed lower right.
