Rare enameled gilt bronze Carolingian lamps. A fine and unique pair of 19th century bronze table lamps. Exhibiting a very unusual style for the period, the lamps exhibit numerous characteristics of Carolingian art originally seen in the ninth through eleventh century. The gilt accented Royal figures, appear to be reading from documents and some appear to be celebrating. The intricate scenes are surrounded by ornate swirling floral patterns in high gilt relief. The bronze segments of the lamp are separated by hand carved turnings of the finest exotic materials. The lamps rest on four round stepped ormolu mounted feet. Good condition. After exhaustive research, we have only discovered one other pair of this type. Measures 30 inches high x 6.5 inches across.
