Italian 18th or 19th century polychrome wood carving of the madonna and child. The figural carved statue is realistically painted with highly detailed carving. Inscribed on the base; Aves Maria Laureto. The crowns are removable. Laureto is an Italian town just south of Fasano. The family history of the carving is that family members were married in Italy and received the sculpture from a local church. In good condition with age cracks, paint loss and a glued finger on the child. We had difficulty determining the specific age of the carved figure. Appears to be well over 150 years old and could be considerably older. Measures 51 inches high.
