拍品描述: Outstanding 19th century French Bronze sculpture of Sporting Dog with Pheasant signed E. Lienard on the lower (rock face), 19th century french sculptor Emile Desire LIENARD born 1842, with a rich golden brown aged patina this magnificent high relief depiction of an Irish Setter with Pheasant coming over the hill to his master with pheasant in mouth. Underside reveals original 19th century casting. This work would make an impressive gift or addition to any fine household or collection. - SCULPTURE SIZE: 20-1/2" Length x 14-1/2" Height x 6" Width. - SCULPTURE WEIGHT: 26lbs. 4 Ounces. - SCULPTURE CONDITION: Excellent BACKGROUND: The Irish Setter was bred for hunting, specifically for setting or locating and pointing upland game birds. They are a tireless, wide-ranging hunter, and well-suited to fields and wet or dry moorland terrain. Using their excellent sense of smell to locate the mark (or bird), the Irish will then hold a pointing position, indicating the direction in which the bird lies hidden. The Irish Setter was brought to the United States in the early 19th century. It commanded great respect in the field and was one of the most commonly used dogs among the professional meat hunter fraternity.
