This original work, with graphite on ragboard, is signed and attr. Tom Wesselmann (1931-2004) on the right lower corner. This work, entitled "Study for Vacun (sic) Formed Nude," and dated 1965 offers a sketch of one of his earlier series, “Great American Nude.” Though a sketch, this composition conjures a familiar trope of his reclining female figure, and is meant to be evocative of the male gaze and the objectification of the female body in art. Although devoid of colour, the duplicate rendering of the female body, is an excellent example of his repudiation of Abstract Expressionism and an example of his embrace for Pop American art. This piece is preserved under glass within a wooden frame, measuring 12 inches x 9 inches (30.48 cm x 22.86 cm). The title, date, dimensions, medium and the name of the artist can be seen on verso. Tom Wesselman (sic) and an address is stamped on the board on the lower left corner of the board above an inscription running along the bottom, “Christopher Noqamech (?) Collection (Proof of estate sale, 1991). PROVENANCE: Upper New York Estate
