Hasegawa was a school - and distinct style - of Japanese painting, founded in the 16th century by Hasegawa Tohaku. It was largely based on the pre-eminent Kano school, but centered in Kyoto, and disappeared in the earlier 18th century. A relatively small outfit, the majority of its painters were students of Tohaku and various Kano masters. Tohaku himself was a student of Kano Eitoku and is said to have considered himself as the stylistic successor to Sesshu.
