Color woodblock print on paper. Vertical oban. Signed Hasui with seal Sui; publisher Watanabe. Title Sanshu Zentsuji (Zentsuji Temple in Sanuki Province) from the series Nihon fukei shu II Kansai hen (Collected Views of Japan II, Kansai Edition).

The temple pagoda towering in the background as a single figure with an umbrella walks the temple complex in the rain beneath a large awning next to tall pine trees.

SIZE of the sheet 38.6 x 26.9 cm

Condition: Excellent condition, very good impression, fresh colors.

Kawase Hasui (1883-1957) was a prominent Japanese artist and printmaker of the shin-hanga ("new prints") movement. He is best known for his landscape prints depicting scenes of Japan, which were highly detailed and often captured the beauty and tranquility of the country's natural landscapes. Hasui's works were characterized by their delicate colors and sophisticated composition, and his legacy as a master of shin-hanga continues to influence Japanese art and culture today.
