拍品描述: A Nepalese parcel-gilt copper bronze multi-armed figure of Yam?ntaka Vajrabhairava/Megh
Sambara - a multi-piece copper bronze, partly cold-gilded and painted, full round dipiction of the Dharmapala Yamantaka potraying him as Vajrabhairava (the ''Diamond Terrifier'') the wrathful manifestation of the bodhisattva Manjushri, Lord of transcendent wisdom,with 9 heads and 34 arms, clasping his consort Vajravetali, the fearsome emanation of Sarasvati in Yab-Yum symbolising the union between wisdom and method, the buffalo-faced deity stands in pratyalidha with his sixteen legs on a simple oval lotus base with beaded rim, ithyphallic, his principal hands embracing his partner and the hands holding karttika and kapala, the other thirty-two radial arms grasping ritual implements and tantric weapons, his central bull head with mighty horns, scull crown, flaming eyebrows ,an open mouth, sharp teeth, a furious grin and an extended tongue, al the faces showing wrathful expression except the upper one representing bodhisattva Manjushri, both figures bejewelled, the base sealed with a metal plate, engraved Vishvavajra, separate flaming mandorla, Nepal, 20th century, H: c.30cm(mandorla)/22cm(figure)/4,5cm (base), weight c.6,2kg Provenance Private Collection Germany
