拍品描述

Loul SCHOPFER (1922-2003), "Le Coq", white plaster sculpture, unsigned. H. 68.5 cm Provenance: Direct progeny of the artist by descent Note: Loul Schopfer (18.07.1922 - 03.01.2004) Swiss artist, originally from the Vallée de Joux, spent her life bringing drawing and sculpture into dialogue in her work. She studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Lausanne, where she was taught by Casimir Reymond, Marcel Poncet and Charles Chinet. In 1954, she was awarded the Bourse Fédérale des Beaux-Arts, which enabled her to stay in Paris and work side by side with sculptor Marcel Gimond. In 1955, she set up her studio in the canton of Vaud, where she illustrates books by poets, and draws and sculpts characters. Through her drawings and sculptures, Loul Schopfer's world is peopled by poetry, silence, memories and absences. His work, based on photographic documents carefully collected by the artist over the course of his career, is imbued with a perpetual search for the essence of the soul. We owe him numerous terracotta portraits of great twentieth-century painters and authors. Loul Schopfer's drawings and sculptures bring to life Roud, Beckett, Rembrandt, Klee, Picasso and Giacometti, whose influence can be seen not only in the artist's portraits, but also in his treatment of the material. Loul Schopfer's graphic and sculptural works can be found in numerous private and public collections, including those of the MCBA and Musée Jenisch. His career as an artist includes numerous exhibitions, notably in Neuchâtel (Galerie Ditesheim), Vevey (Arts et Lettres, Musée Jenisch), Martigny (Fondation Louis Moret) and Lausanne (La Proue, Musée cantonal des Beaux-Arts). In 1994, a major retrospective exhibition of his work was held at the Musée Jenisch. José-Flore Tappy, a poet from the canton of Vaud, dedicated a book to him entitled "Loul Schopfer, La nuit féconde". The same year, the artist received the Wilhelm Gimmi Foundation Prize.
