拍品描述

Charles FRACÉ (1926-2005) , "Leopard, Head Study", oil on board, signed lower left. 40.5 x 50 cm Reference number: Previously sold at Christie's London 04/24/1998 under lot 229 Note: Charles Fracé, a visionary artist whose work continues to captivate, left his mark on the Wildlife Art movement. Born in 1926, Fracé is widely recognized for his dazzling, realistic paintings that capture wildlife in all its splendor. His creations illustrate his incredible ability to capture fleeting moments of wildlife in their natural habitat. Fracé has distinguished himself through his mastery of detail, texture and the play of light, bringing to life every coat, feather and eye of his animal subjects. Born in Mauch Chunk, Pennsylvania, USA, now renamed Jim Thorpe, Charles Fracé drew his inspiration from an early age from the vast expanses of nature around him. After trying his hand as an illustrator in 1955 and working for a year at the Saturday Evening Post's New York bureau, he befriended wildlife photographer Shelly Grossman. After Fracé sought advice from respected wildlife illustrator Al Dorne, who told him to "hang in there", Fracé joined Grossman on a mission to Weeki Wachee, Florida, where Fracé found inspiration for his first three wildlife paintings, a Great Horned Owl, a Sparrowhawk and a Pondicherry Vulture. His early experiences observing animals in their natural habitat shaped his passion for the artistic representation of wildlife. Over the years, he has refined his technique to create moving canvases that transcend mere visual representation. Beyond his technical skill, Charles Fracé was deeply committed to the conservation of wildlife and its habitats. His works act as silent ambassadors of nature's beauty, reminding the public of the importance of preserving biodiversity for future generations. Charles Fracé has left a lasting legacy to the Wildlife Art movement. His exceptional contribution continues to inspire contemporary artists to capture the splendor of wildlife, while reminding us all of the vital importance of protecting our precious planet.
