A bronze figure of Amoghasiddhi, probably Western Tibet, circa 14th century, seated in padmasana on a double lotus throne, depicted with right hand raised in abhayamudra , the left in dhyana mudra , the eyes inlaid, the thumb nail on his left hand inlaid with copper, [later bit of description is really just a duplication of what we already have] 33.5cm high
Provenance: By repute from an Indonesian collection formed in the 1970's and then by descent and to the current owner.
The Tathagata Amoghasiddhi, Buddha of the North "Almighty Conqueror" is identified by his right hand gesture of fearlessness and protection, abhayamudra . The Buddha is said to protect practitioners from the poison of jealousy and envy. This sculpture embodies the principal Buddhist tenet of Compassion with its serene otherworldly expression.
