China, Warring states period (475-221 BC) or later. Each cast with a slanted blade.

Condition: Good condition with expected traces of age and wear as well as extensive malachite encrustations.
Provenance: UK trade.

Auction result comparison: Compare to a group of 38 bronze coin-knives at Christie′s New York, in Christie's Interiors on 6 - 7 April 2010, lot 246, sold for USD 6,875.

Knife money refers to the ancient form of currency in China, made of bronze and shaped like knives. It was produced by different governments and kingdoms around 2500 years ago. This type of currency was in circulation during the Zhou dynasty, between 600 and 200 BC.
