拍品描述
A Chinese celadon jar, Song dynasty (960-1279), in the style of Yaozhou ware, the globular body rising from a circular foot to an everted rim, covered under an olive crackled glaze, with a 'BLUETT & SONS LONDON' label and a 'Newton 181' label, 14cm diameter Provenance: Dr Isaac Newton; Bluett & Sons, Ltd.; from the collection of Dr Jonathan Broido. It was a family belief that Dr Isaac Newton was a descendant of the great British scientist of the same name. He was a director of Medical Services in Hong Kong while he built up his interest in Chinese jades and early ceramics. His main collection was sold by Bluetts in their 1981 exhibition of 'Dr Newton's Zoo: A Study of Post-Archaic Small Jade Carvings'. Dr Jonathan Broido (1941-2008) was a professor of mathematics and philosophy. He received his PhD from the University of Pittsburgh and lectured in the US, Israel and the UK, in philosophy, mathematics, AI and interdisciplinarity. He was also an avid collector and lecturer on antiques and rugs - known in particular for his expertise and love of Asian ceramics and rare and archaic Turkoman weavings. He travelled throughout Asia acquiring pieces, as well as making finds in London's antique markets and the US. 宋 青釉罐
