Born in 1970 in Daegu, South Korea, Kim studied sculpture at Hongik University in Seoul before receiving his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2000.His work is characterized by his innovative use of a diverse range of materials, including wood, metal, paper, and fabric, often incorporating traditional Korean techniques such as lacquer and embroidery. He is particularly known for his large-scale sculptures, which combine intricate details with a strong sense of organic form, often suggesting the human body. One of Kim's best-known works is "Silk Road," a large-scale installation consisting of hundreds of silk cocoons, arranged in a circular formation and suspended from the ceiling. The work is inspired by the ancient trade route that connected East and West, and the cocoons represent the exchange of goods and ideas that occurred along this route. The installation has been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, including the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Seoul.Another notable work by Kim is "Body and Soul," a series of sculptures that explore the relationship between the human body and the natural world. The sculptures are made from various materials, including wood, steel, and wax, and are arranged in a way that suggests both movement and stasis, capturing the essence of the human form while also evoking the natural environment.Kim's work has received critical acclaim both in South Korea and internationally, and he has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the Grand Prize at the Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale in 2007. He currently lives and works in Seoul, where he continues to create thought-provoking and innovative works that challenge and expand our understanding of contemporary sculpture. Painter 'Kim Nam-pyo' has held several solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad. His paintings are characterized by placing unfamiliar objects on surreal landscapes, and although they are bizarre, they make us dream and imagine many things. His work, which has many unplanned elements, is driven by momentary judgment and inspiration. His recent works, in which products of modern civilization such as automobiles, handbags, and shoes are placed together with zebras, lions, and gorillas, are eccentric and dreamy.Because of this, it has a surreal atmosphere.
