Dating back to the 12th - 13th century, this melon form ewer has been inlaid in black and white with chrysanthemum and peony flowers underneath a layer of olive green celadon glaze. A long thin curved spout is accompanied with a ridged tendril of a handle. The lid has foliate edges, chrysanthemum blooms and topped with a finial in the shape of a curled stem.
