A PAIR OF LARGE CHINESE PAINTED POTTERY FIGURES OF KNEELING WOMEN, TL TESTED OF HAN DYNASTY. Each slender figure in kneeling pose with their hands clenched and resting on their laps, their features picked out in red and black, with long hair tied behind their back, wearing a long red robe tied with a black belt. With CityU Professional Services Ltd (City University of Hong Kong) Report on Thermoluminescence Authenticity Test, which estimated that the material tested was last fired 1550 years ago, the date of testing was 25 August 2006 (for one figure). 64.5cm high. Provenance: Property of a Lancashire family. Overall these are well modelled and retain much of their original pigment. One figure with two drill holes for testing to back of her head and to her back. With some typical surface flaking to pigment, slight chipping to base and extremities. The other with large section to rear of red base broken into several pieces and restored, with associated hairline cracks and retouching to red pigment. There is a crack around her neck with small areas of retouching suggesting that her neck has probably been off. Also with some typical surface wear and flaking to pigment.
