KIKUGAWA EIZAN (1787-1867): A TWO-PART COLOR WOODBLOCK PRINT KAKEMONO OF A BEAUTY
Japan, 19th century. The two-part color woodblock print comes with a finely woven and embroidered silk brocade frame and is mounted as a hanging scroll with stag antler handles. Depicting a beauty wearing voluminous robes decorated with diapered designs, artist signature 'Eizan hitsu' to the lower right. With a fitted wooden storage box bearing a label with inscriptions.

Condition: Good condition with minor wear, minimal browning and staining.
Provenance: Austrian private collection.

Kikugawa Eizan
(1787–1867) was a designer of ukiyo-e style Japanese woodblock prints. He is believed to have also studied with the ukiyo-e artist Totoya Hokkei (1790–1850) and produced numerous woodblock prints of beautiful women (bijin-ga) in the 1830s.
