THREE ARCHAISTIC JADE CARVINGS
China, Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) or earlier. The first carved on both sides as a stylized bird with defined hooked beak, eyes and crest, neatly enhanced over the stylized body with double-line grooves and various geometric designs, the stone of a pale celadon tone with extensive brown areas and minor calcification. The second carved as a coiled dragon forming a near-circular shape, the head detailed with round eyes, pointed ears and horn, the stone of a pale brown tone. The third carved on both sides as a small, flattened bird standing on its two feet and tail, depicted with large eyes and beak, the wings and body detailed in low relief with characteristic double-line grooves, the semi-translucent stone of a pale celadon tone with brown areas and a white alteration along one side.

With a fitted lacquer box of rectangular form, the cover decorated in high relief to depict a blooming prunus branch issuing from a craggy rock and the sides with floral scroll in low relief. Inside an inscribed label referring to the content of jade birds.

Condition: Good condition with surface wear, and natural flaws to the stone. The coiled dragon with a chip to the tip of the horn.
Provenance: From a Perth private collection. Jades from the same collection and with the same type of fitted boxes were sold at Bonhams Sydney in 'Elegant Embellishments featuring the Hsiao Family collection' on 8h August 2021.
