AN INDIAN MINIATURE PAINTING OF VISHNU AND HIS CONSORT
India, 18th-19th century. Watercolors, ink, and gold on paper. Depicting the four-armed Vishnu as his avatar Krishna together with a consort, possibly Radha, seated on a lotus throne, flanked by a female attendant and Garuda. Vishnu is carrying a mace, lotus, discus, and conch shell in each of his four hands as his identifying objects. He is dressed in a bright yellow dhoti.

Provenance
: From a South German private collection, assembled in the 1970s.
Condition: Good condition with minor wear, few creases, minor losses, the edges with minuscule flakes and wormholes, and small stains.

Dimensions: 24.7 x 15.9 cm

Literature comparison:
Compare a related painting of Krishna and Radha, dated to the 19th century, in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum, accession number D.390-1889.
